Engineering Lead
Location: Singapore / India | Type: Full-time | Posted: 02 May 2026
About the Role
We're hiring a senior backend-focused Engineering Lead / Staff Engineer to help architect and scale Genie's core platform. This is a foundational role. You will design and build the systems that power health data aggregation, insights generation, and partner integrations — while shaping engineering standards, mentoring early hires, and working closely with founders.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering expertise (NestJS + TypeScript, Python)
- Experience building and scaling consumer platforms, marketplaces, or multi-tenant B2B systems (org-scoped data, RBAC, data isolation)
- Deep understanding of system design, APIs, and data architecture
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and GCP — EKS, RDS Aurora, SQS, Secrets Manager, S3)
- Familiarity with complex data systems and data sharing frameworks
- Comfortable working with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code) — while maintaining strong independent thinking
- Experience collaborating across distributed teams (2–3 locations)
- Ability to operate independently in a startup environment and own large parts of the system
- Experience leading small teams of engineers and driving shared outcomes
- Solid understanding of relational databases and data modeling
- Strong PostgreSQL — schema design, migrations, query optimization (Prisma ORM preferred)
- Comfortable with Terraform and Helm for deployment (or willing to learn fast)
- Experience with HIPAA/healthcare compliance — PHI handling, audit trails, encryption
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI/ML systems or LLM integrations
- Mobile experience (React Native or similar)
- Exposure to healthtech or regulated environments (e.g. HIPAA)
- Experience building systems involving sensitive data and privacy constraints
Responsibilities
- Architect and build scalable backend systems powering Genie's core platform
- Design APIs, data models, and services for multi-tenant B2B and consumer use cases
- Build and manage secure data pipelines for health data ingestion, processing, and sharing
- Work across cloud infrastructure (AWS / GCP) to deploy, scale, and maintain services
- Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into production systems where relevant
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and founders to translate complex requirements into robust systems
- Contribute to mobile/backend integration (React Native exposure helpful)
- Work across distributed teams and drive engineering alignment
- Set engineering standards, review code, and mentor future team members
- Lead and mentor engineers and guide AI agents
